I'll be giving a presentation at the Low-Income Forum on Energy (
LIFE) hosted by
NYSERDA on Tuesday May 22, 2012. Here's the session description:
Since the evolution of the electric incandescent lamp, household lighting has changed little, if at all. The average consumer chooses from a limited variety of lamp sizes and shapes. The main decision consumers have had to make is which wattage of incandescent light bulb to buy.
Recently, lighting technology has advanced rapidly, adding CFLs and LEDs to the mix, and complicating the once simple task of choosing a light bulb. But, with the loss of simplicity comes numerous benefits including more consumer choice, greatly increased energy efficiency, and lower overall cost to the consumer. What is the impact to the low income customer? And how will we all adapt to the availability of different lighting technology?
This session provides valuable information concerning the impact of the new federal lighting standard, and how to adapt without sacrificing the amenities we all love from the incandescent bulb.
